How do you make for a perfect party, well this
weekend we planned a small gathering for a few of our friends. Here is our
recipe for success.
11. Be lucky with the weather. We were holding the party
outdoors and were really lucky. Although it was not bright sunshine it was
pleasantly warm and we were sheltered from the wind.
22. Great food. Marion prepared some great food,
supplemented by our friend Roz’s delicious cakes for dessert. Basically we
started with fresh melon and cold meats. The centrepiece of the main course was
a Harissa chicken pie, supplemented by quiche and a thick onion tart. These
were accompanied by homemade coleslaw and tabulah salad with new potatoes. As I
said Roz’s cakes were mouth watering. Marion also made a lovely strawberry
desert.
33. Keep the drinks simple. We just served lovely cold
champagne, ideal on a warm summer’s day.
44. Provide a diversion. We played boules, all competed
on the makeshift boulodrome (is that a word) that I had created on our back
lawn. To make it really successful though the host probably should not have
won!
55. Have great guests. There were a dozen of us, but
there was lively conversation, everybody was relaxed and it shows the ease of
the occasion in that nobody left before 6, we started at lunchtime.
So we had a lovely day, one that will live in the
memory of this summer.
