We have been given the boxed set of the first two
series of House of Cards. It has become addictive for us, tonight we watched
two episodes straight off, and were it not that we felt a little tired we would
probably have watched some more.
I remember the original BBC series some twenty years
ago. At the time it was revolutionary for the asides of the main character. I
notice that there are some key people involved in the US production that were
part of the original team. This is probably why they have reproduced the feel
of the original series.
Like all good drama the main actors are superb, Kevin
Spacey conveys a sense of menace and ruthlessness while Robin Wright’s
ruthlessness is more in the form of the stiletto in back. The ensemble is also
very strong.
What the US drama brings is great pace to the
storytelling. It is also about the heart of US politics that makes it
fascinating. Great compulsive viewing, I thoroughly recommend it.
