Looking out of the Window

There is something satisfying looking out at the garden after a days work. Today is a Bank Holiday in the UK and for once the sun shone and it was really rather pleasant. This meant that Marion and myself could make a combined assault on our back garden, and as is so often the case two hands proved better than one.

We stayed up watching TV rather late last night, it was a documentary about Rod Stewart that took our fancy. I must admit that I did have a small sleep during the Maggie May era. However I was awake enough to realise that he has a penchant for tall leggy blondes. As a result we were not in bed much before 1am. So it was a little bit of a surprise that we were both up and raring to go before 9.

First stop was the local garden centre to buy potting compost and lawn feed, and then it was all hands to the pump. Basically I worked under Marion’s supervision, which is the best thing in the garden as I have a propensity to leave weeds and pull out healthy plants. While keeping a wary eye on my progress Marion prepared the pots for planting. One thing that Marion and I agree on though is the need for breaks; so iced coffee was produced mid-morning to keep productivity up.

By early afternoon apart for fertilising, which had to be done last thing we were done. The back garden now is in a good state and the pots ready for planting. So we took a ride out to a local specialist garden centre to give the plants the once over. Too early to buy, just to put flesh on Marion’s concepts.

So now there is a sense of a job well done, and the good feeling that you get from being out in the fresh air all day. Just as well really as the forecast for the next few days is for prolonged rain. Even this though has a silver lining, as it will water in the fertiliser on the lawn.
