The Moment that you have been waiting for

I know that the political world has been agog waiting for me to make my views known on voting intentions for Thursday’s elections. I know that this will cause ripples throughout the political world. I must admit I find it strange that the political leaders have not beaten a path to my door. I believe that I am ready for my Russell Brand moment; it is critical to the party’s fortunes on Thursday as to whom I endorse.

I find it strange how much importance is placed on these endorsements. Without exception whether it be the humble blogger or the most powerful press baron, the endorsement is personally based on people’s vested interests. Thus News International is not making a rational decision, but a decision based on the collective benefit to News International as seen through Rupert Murdoch’s prism, not to any of its readers. It would be exactly the same if I endorsed a political party this is based on my personal opinion. Now you might hope that I am looking at things from a wider perspective rather than my own self-interest. However my own prejudices are bound to influence my endorsement.

So I will not give you any recommendation, bar the fact that you should absolutely vote, that is every citizen’s responsibility. Do not complain over the next five years if you have not exercised your right to vote. So go out vote and vote based on what you have read and heard. This blog of course must apologise to our American cousins who of course cannot vote in our election.

  1. Oh, dear, I am not sure I could ever learn enough about how the British system works to cast an informed vote in the UK! I have been reading about the parties, coalitions, consequences if no one wins... quite overwhelming. Let's start with no written constitution... what? And there is a possibility that a minority government could hand over the government to a looser without an election? Coalitions, confidence and supply, vote by vote? If if the SNP is not high in the polls, why is today's US headline all about the power of Nicola Sturgeon if a coalition government needs to be formed? Sigh. And I thought the intrigue of Cromwell and Henry's court in Wolf Hall is hard to follow!! Things are so much simpler here as we like things easy to digest with little self reflection. Bernie, though, apparently missed that civics lesson. Looking forward to in-person discussion when you can sort out a few things for me!
