I am
writing this as we sail across the River Plate from Buenos Aires to Montevideo.
The boat is gently rocking and we are looking forward to a day exploring
Uruguay.
We
had a relaxed start, and spent the morning idling and repacking the suitcase. I
visited a small off licence where I managed to purchase the excellent Malbec
that we had drunk on our first night in Argentina.
There
was one peculiar episode on the way to the ship, the driver of our taxi managed
to lock our suitcases into his car. Cue much attempted smashing of windows.
They seem surprisingly hard to break. All was well after he managed with some
stones and a tyre wrench.
Embarkation
was smooth although the terminal was crowded with 3,000 people boarding a Costa
boat. Our suite was not ready so we had an enjoyable lunch while we waited.
Then it to the task of unpacking, a good job there is plenty of packing and
hanging space. It is a lovely room and I am sure that we will be very
comfortable. We then had the mandatory evacuation briefing; I am not planning a
dousing in Antarctic waters!
We
left Buenos Aires in a downpour so were not able to appreciate it from the
deck. There then followed lots of conversations with fellow cruisers. Marion
was quite chatty; I think the glass of champagne and two large cosmopolitans
helped. After a delightful dinner we retired to the library and entered into an
intensely political conversation with two American ladies. Vehemently against
Trump and pro-Hilary, indeed we were shown the picture of them with Hilary.
Everything
going really well.
