Torggerson Harbour – fog

I am starting the blog early today as at the moment we are becalmed in quite thick fog. So at about 8am when I went for my first cappuccino of the day it seemed like morning mist. As I drank my coffee on the aft deck the sun was beginning to shine brightly from behind the clouds. It was warm enough to be out in a sweater. A large iceberg could be viewed on the left, while directly behind a mountain peak was emerging from the clouds. So it was with optimism that we went to breakfast. After a lively discussion about the shutdown of government in the United States we went outside but the fog still had not lifted. It was intended that we would have zodiac tours today observe Adelie penguins, however at the moment all operations have stopped. However this gives us the opportunity to reflect and relax.

Yesterday was fabulous, for me watching penguins swim through the clear waters was outstanding. They looked like guided missiles as they streaked through the water. Their behaviour on land around their nests and youngsters is fascinating. There is a huge degree of organisation in the apparent chaos.

I have uploaded a photo of the magnificent landscape to wet you appetite.

Last night once again we had an exceptional dinner and a lovely nightcap watching the sun dip in the Antarctic sky.

Here’s hoping that I will be writing of our exploits later in the day.
