First of all apologies for no blog yesterday, I am
afraid that the blame is down to the soccer. Middlesbrough were playing
yesterday evening and that necessitates an early start from home. It also means
that I do not get back home until after 11pm, also because of the drive and
particularly last night due to the excitement of the game, I am a little hyped
up to write a blog that late. So why did I not write the blog earlier, well in
truth I was working quite hard.
Our garage was suffering from neglect; it had become
very untidy and truthfully was a mess. I needed to store some of the things
that I had brought back from my mother’s house. It was dusty, dirty work and
left me puzzling why we had five pairs of adult wellington boots. I probably
wear wellingtons once a year when I power hose the patio. Therefore I reasoned
that I probably could get rid of the other pairs. We also decided that the very
rusty exercise bike that had not been used for at least ten years could go.
Apart from that there were no other surprises or discoveries.
Something unfortunate then happened. One of the bags
that I was carrying split and a substantial amount of dirt ended up in the boot
of the car. So there was then a car cleaning exercise to be carried out, and it
was the whole car so that Marion could drive in comfort to Poole this weekend.
For some reason I then felt the compulsion to mow the
lawns, but to do that I had to walk to the garage to buy some petrol for the
mower. Then I had to fit in a shower and dinner before driving to the football.
The kicker was this morning; we had to get up early,
well early for us retired types, to drive the car to the garage because it needed
a minor repair. So all in all today turned into a much more lazy day than
yesterday. That is the advantage of retirement; there is not the same pressure
for activity. I suppose that is what a work/life balance is all about. One hard
day followed by a much more relaxed one the day after.
By the way the football was very exciting, cracking
atmosphere and the right result. Only three games to go until the end of the
season and promotion still beckons.
