I think that I am beginning to see some tremendous
upside to retirement. This blog follows on from yesterday from which you will
realise that Tuesday was a long and tiring day for both Marion and myself.
The tremendous advantage that we have now is that we
can do something about it. Previously we would have dragged ourselves grumpily
to work. So Wednesday was a recuperation day, and what a day it was. It was
helped by the weather being excellent. Although not very hot it was sunny all
day and without a cooling wind.
So in the morning we went to the gym, neither of us I
think performed very well, and I think that was due in part to the previous
day. However the compensation was a fabulous top down ride along the sea front.
The sea was a shimmering blue with hardly a ripple on it. The air gently
ruffled our hair in the car. You get the picture.
After a shower I surprised Marion, I put up the
garden umbrella, arranged the cushions on the outside chairs, and chilled a
bottle of Chablis. We just sat and read our books.
Above is Marion enjoying the Chablis, unfortunately no evidence of reading!
It was only a couple of
hours later that I realised that Marion was singing at a choir rehearsal in the
evening and that I had promised her a lift. So the wine drinking had to stop
immediately. However the afternoon continued to slip amiably away. We were also
able to spend all afternoon outside.
The upshot of all this was that we both slept better
than we had done for a long time and woke up this morning really ready for
another day.
It is of course a special day for the English being
St. Georges Day and the birthday of Shakespeare. From my cursory glance around
town it seems that apart from the UKIP Election Shop it seems to be being
ignored. So a very English Day. Still I will report back tomorrow as I am
attending a St. George’s Day themed dinner tonight.
