Many apologies I cannot seem to keep up with the
photographs, ICloud and hence what I can load onto the blog seems to run 24
hours behind and then only upload photos of Marion!!! Perhaps it is using
artificial intelligence.
So we did not have high hopes of today as the weather
forecast was poor, basically rain all day, but we are English and were never
going to let a little rain get in our way. But we did decide to have a leisurely
breakfast. We then headed back to Soller, but this time we drove the coast in a
westerly direction. We both agreed that it was one of the most stunning coastal
drives that we have ever driven. Not including stops it took around three hours
to drive fifty kilometres. Round every bend there were stunning vistas as the
mountainous coastline dropped directly into the sea, punctuated by villages
clinging to the cliff line.
I knew that the village of Deia was famous for something but could not remember why, except of course its very picturesque setting high above the Mediterranean. As we drove into the village the signs to the Robert Graves House gave it away. He lived there with his mistress throughout the twenties until the Spanish Civil War. It is though a mystery to me how anybody visits it as the car parking was almost impossible.
The next village was Valdemossa, which as you all
know well was famous for being the home of Chopin and Georges Sands. The
village is quite touristy but we had a lovely snack sat in the sun. I did not
take the opportunity of visiting the piano that Chopin practiced on, to me one
piano is much like another, philistine you say. But the weather was great.
Then further along the coast. Sometime this week I
will be able to display the photos. We finished up in the town of Andtatx that
it on the western most point of Majorca. We strolled along the side of the port
there that was surprisingly un-crowded.
Finally we drove back to the hotel and spent an evening looking at the view and having chat. Then a lovely dinner.
It has been a great stay in Majorca, really relaxing.
We found a really great little hotel, an isolated converted farm in the hills.
We have a lovely room and the hospitality is great. Absolutely perfect for a
great relaxing weekend. Look it up at http://www.fincaescastell.com
