Busy Day

My son contacted us yesterday, could we babysit tonight (Saturday)? Well it was 24 hours notice but things were hastily rearranged. After all those grandchildren are delightful.

But first today was some gardening, we have a particularly awkward piece of front garden. It get’s overrun by couch grass and is full of obstinate roots. So as the weather was better there was firstly a session of hand weeding followed by forking the ground over. I had forgotten what hard work both of those was. So despite not doing an awful lot my legs are really tired this evening. There is now a deadline to weed kill the patch and then cover with black cloth so that they do not grow again. All this just to get the plot ready.

The weather was so good that we drove the open top car to Leeds, the first time this year that we have gone topless. It was really very pleasant, reaching a balmy 18 degrees at one point.

So to see the grandchildren who were boisterous and delightful in equal measure. The youngest is talking and talking and sees the funny side of everything. The oldest is just thirsting for knowledge all the time and is a demon at role-play, expecting you to have the same enthusiasm. You can see from the photos below how they are engrossed with Marion in storytelling.

So it has been a busy day and we both fell quite tired. However it is a good tired and I am sure that we sleep well. It is great to enjoy these days again. Doubtless we will be up early in the morning when two little people come down for a story, and generally to disturb our lie in!!
