Today is that pivotal moment in the year when you
know that winter is now behind us and summer is on its way. All sorts of things
came together today to make this happen.
Firstly the weather, the sun has been out all day and
there has been real warmth, the thermometer topped 11 deg Centigrade at
lunchtime. The wind has turned from the cold northwest to a mild southwesterly.
No longer do you need to dress in about 100 layers to venture outside. Better
still it is forecast to be well into double figures over the weekend.
Secondly on our drive to York there were sign of a reawakening
all along the road. In places there were a profusion of snowdrops, and in one
location a whole line of daffodils waving in the wind. The trees had the
starting of buds, and everything just looked glorious. The light showed the
countryside at its best.
Thirdly whether it was because of all of this or just
coincidence Marion and I have felt so much better. We went to the gym this
morning, and although we have lost some fitness over the last three weeks it
was just a pleasure to be back on the machines and weights. We then went for a leisurely
lunch, and highlight of the day, Marion forced me to buy a new dressing gown.
Best still I feel a little stiff from the exercise but I do not have that
overwhelming lethargy.
Now there will be cold days again this spring, there
will be days when everything will not go right, but we will look back on
Wednesday 4 March as a day that a Rubicon was crossed.
