Majorca Planning

In two weeks time we are off for a long weekend in Majorca. The history behind this is a little convoluted. Originally Marion was going to take her mother on a short break, however due to her father’s ill health plans were changed so I am going instead. We are hoping for some early spring sun, but the best bit is today as we are making plans.

It means that I can indulge in my railway hobby, we are planning to take the scenic railway from Palma to Soller and then onwards on the tram to the port of Soller. The railway was built at the turn of the 20th century and takes a tortuous route through the mountains that divide the island. There are lengthy tunnels and viaducts as well as some sharp curves.

There is a good deal of planning to do as the train departs from the centre of Palma, so rather than driving in and attempting to park we will catch the local train. So there is research into where to park.

So that leaves us one and a half other days. I think at least one will be spent lazing over coffee in a café in Pollenca. Then I think we would like to explore the west of the island, particularly Valdemossa where I think that Chopin lived.

There is nothing better than the anticipation of planning a vacation even a short one. I can almost smell the coffee, the wine, the great fish and feel the sun on my back. Cannot wait!

  1. You are inspiring, Nigel! We are in the midst of planning a trip to Prince Edward Island in the Canadian Maritimes. We've begun using the phrase "book a holiday" especially on dark days when we need a bit of cheer:). Your weekend sounds exciting-enjoy!
